Stainless Steel Plate & Sheet sizes
Standard width: 1000 mm, 1219 mm, 1500 mm, 2000 mm, non standard width is slitted and cut in narrow width, width from 6 mm to 3048 mm.
Plate: over 5 mm in thickness, over 250 mm in width.
Sheet: under 5 mm in thickness, over 600 mm in width.
Thus plate is thicker than sheet, sizes range thickness from 0.3 mm to 150 mm, non standard thickness is available.
Depending on thickness, there is thin thick sheet (0.2 mm – 4 mm), thick thickness plate(4 mm – 20 mm), medium thickness plate (20 mm – 60 mm) , heavy thickness plate (60 mm – 115 mm).
Stainless steel plate & sheet gauge from 1 to 30, size range thickness from 0.32 to 7.15 in mm.
Stainless Steel Plate & Sheet Surface Finishing
Stainless steel plate & sheet have various finishing condition to meet requirement, heat treatment, pickling, polishing are available, below are main surface finishes, cold rolling or hot rolling producing method.
- NO.1 – Hot rolled, annealed, and descaled
- 2D – Cold rolled, dull finish
- 2B – The general-purpose, cold rolled, smooth finish
- BA – Bright, cold rolled, highly reflective finish
- NO.3 – Intermediate polished finish
- NO.4 – General-purpose ground polished finish produced from 2B finish
- NO.8 – Highly reflective ‘mirror’ finish produced from 2B finish

Stainless Steel Plate & Sheet Dimension Tolerance
The dimensional tolerances are grouped by producing method cold rolled or hot rolled, with or without coiling, narrow width below 610 mm or wide width over 610 mm, here main standard tolerances specified as ASTM A480 specification.

Cold rolled & hot rolled plate and sheet
Hot rolled
Hot rolled steel is rolled at high temperature, this make steel easy to form and fabricating, to get target sizes and dimensions, hot rolled type is easier after processing.
- Uniform grain size, avoiding structure defect
- Improve properties
- Shaped and formed easily
- Non metallic inclusions inside steel remain
- Stress exsit
- Not easy to control width and thickness precisely
- Scaled surface
- Cheaper than cold rolled steel
Cold rolled
Cold rolled steel is rolled on the basis of hot rolled steel, then picking and remove scale on the surface, cooling at room temperature,
- Clear and smooth surface
- More finishes option
- Closer tolerances
- Stronger hardness
- Limited in a few shapes
Stainless steel plate can be made by hot rolling and cold rolling, including the thickness of 0.31-3.0 mm sheet and 2.5-16 mm slab.
